TLRMC Volunteers Receive State-Wide Recognition

Leitchfield , Ky. – The Volunteer Auxiliary at Twin Lakes Regional Medical Center in Leitchfield was recently honored as only one of two recipients for an award given by the Kentucky Hospital Association (KHA). The auxiliary was presented a HANDS (Helping Accomplish Noteworthy Duties Successfully) Award for an In-Service Hospital Project. The award was given to the group on May 14 at the KHA Annual Auxiliary and Volunteer Luncheon during the 79th annual KHA Convention in Louisville. For several years, young patients at Twin Lakes Regional Medical Center have been given a special friend to help make their visit to the hospital a little less scary. Each month several members of the TLRMC Volunteer Auxiliary get together in the basement of a local church to hand make sock monkeys and other stuffed animals for children coming to the hospital. The animals are given to the young patients and their families at no charge. The volunteers raise the money needed to purchase any supplies or donate materials in addition to their time and talents. According to TLRMC Volunteer Auxiliary past-president Betty Taylor, over 240 sock monkeys, turtles, lambs, and frogs were lovingly hand sewn during 2007. The final step in producing each animal is to sew on a custom made label with the words “Made with tender loving care by Twin Lakes Hospital Auxiliary.” “Our volunteers are a special group of people and the hospital is a better place because of them,” said Patty Bratcher, Co-Director of the TLRMC Volunteers. “We try to tell them often how important they are to our patients, visitors and employees. It’s nice that they are now recognized state-wide for some of the good things they do here.”
