New $2 million CCU and Surgery Center to Open

Leitchfield , Ky. – Twin Lakes Regional Medical Center is putting the finishing touches on nearly 8,000 square feet of space used for surgical procedures and critical care patients. The expansion and renovations will allow the hospital to better meet the increasing pre- and post-operative needs of the hospital’s patients. The $2 million expansion consists of two areas; the Critical Services Unit (referred to as the CCU) and surgery pre-op and post-op areas. According to Steve Meredith, CEO, the TLRMC critical care area has almost always had a need for more space. Critical care is defined as specialized care for patients with acute, life-threatening illness or injury. The new TLRMC CCU features six rooms with nearly double the size now available. Surgery cases at TLRMC have increased from an average of 380 cases per month last year to 490 cases per month this year. The expansion will not increase the types of surgeries performed at the hospital. However, according to David Logsdon, CNO, patient privacy will be increased with the addition of half-walls between recovery beds. The barriers replace curtains in the current layout. “The biggest benefit will be that we now have space for a pre-admission testing program which will mean more surgeries will begin and end on time.” The pre-admission testing program will help make sure blood work and pre-surgery preparation is complete before the patient arrives for surgery. “This will help keep the surgery schedule more consistent,” states Logsdon. During a private ceremony preceding the open house and ribbon cutting, the name for the Critical Services Unit will be announced as the Joseph C. Petrocelli Center for Critical Care Medicine. This surprise honor will recognize surgeon Dr. Petrocelli for his over 27 years of service at Twin Lakes Regional Medical Center. The public is invited to tour the new facility on Tuesday, August 5. The Grayson County Chamber of Commerce will perform a ribbon cutting ceremony at 6:30 p.m. followed by an open house and reception. Tours of the expansion project will be available.
